Flashback Friday!

It was in 8th grade English class that I first found this book “The Girl in the Box.” My teacher, Mrs. Pickle, always had paperback books we could check out in addition to the regular school library collection. This story was a powerful tale and caught me completely off guard. I will never forget it.

You won’t want to put this book down!

“Left in an underground cement room by an unknown captor, Jackie has food and water but no light or human contact. She does not know when--or if--her abductor will return.
As her desperation mounts, Jackie touch-types to focus her mind: letters to her family, a story for her English class, and reflections on her life in the past few months.
In her isolation and fear, Jackie is forced to test her emotional boundaries, and in doing so she finds new meaning in her past as well as rich reserves of strength and courage within herself.”

Flashback Friday!

When I was in 5th grade I read “The Secret of the Mansion” the first of the Trixie Belden series by Julie Campbell.  It was nice to read about kids my age and I was attracted to the book because many of the characters were related to each other.  I have been a fan of mysteries every since!

~ Happy Reading

Trixie's summer is going to be sooo boring with her two older brothers away at camp. But then a millionaire's daughter moves into the next-door mansion, an old miser hides a fortune in his decrepit house, and a runaway kid starts hiding out in Sleepyside.”

Flashback Friday!

I first read “The Black Stallion” in High School. It captured my attention because it had all sorts of adventures that were exciting to read about . . .like a shipwreck and being stranded on a deserted island. It took a lot of dedication from Alec to overcome all of the challenges in this book. I learned from this story that a person can accomplish anything as long as they keep after it day after day.

~ Get Swept Away with this good read!

“First published in 1941, Walter Farley's best-selling novel for young readers is the triumphant tale of a boy and a wild horse. From Alec Ramsay and the Black's first meeting on an ill-fated ship to their adventures on a desert island and their eventual rescue, this beloved story will hold the rapt attention of readers new and old.
